Golden Knots

This has been a crazy week! Good thing I got this new necklace from C. Wonder to brighten it up! I'm loving their store... I'm so intrigued by all of their colors and their jewelry is gorgeous! It was really hard to pick just one peice... and don't even get me started on their home decor... and they monogram!! Ok, now that I've gotten that out... :) I loved this gold knot necklace with the gold striped sweater. It gave just the hint of shine that this outfit needed. I added the chambray pop over to give it some depth and the pink bag for a shot of color. I love that this is so classic... I dressed it down here with the riding boots but you could totally dress it up with some amazing heels.

Now, to get back to my super busy week- I didn't even get a chance to bake last night :( Maybe Saturday...? I still have a lot to do on my to do list before Friday... wish me luck!

Annnd.... Happy Birthday to my favorite brother! Off to celebrate for a drink with him and the rest of the family. Hope you have a great night!

Comfortable in Stripes

Let me just start with any excuse to wear leggings is a good one (at least on the weekends and definitely on Sundays). I paired mine here with my new and adorable sweater from Anthropologie and dressed it up with a scarf, a brown leather structured bag, and flats. I am a big fan of comfort and wearability and I think that this outfit embodies both elements (though I strive to incorporate both in my everyday outfits).

I know it's only Tuesday but I'm ready for the weekend again :) Is it just me? Maybe some baking is in order... homemade chocolate chip cookies make everything better!

Pleats and Studs

I just recently bought this skirt and have been dying for a chance to wear it... luckily, my chance came this weekend in the form of dinner with the in-laws. I had a lot of fun putting this outfit together but since we were just going to a local restaurant, I decided to play down the pleated skirt. So I added the brown leather booties, studded leather bracelet, and cuffed tee to create a perfectly dressed down pleated skirt! I loved that the skirt was tea length. What do you think?

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We spent ours with family and friends (doing some relaxing but mostly we did a lot of work).

Red, Plaid, and Gold Gitter

It's finally Friday! I'm super excited for the weekend... hopefully it involves some relaxation and some nice dinners (and it definitely has to involve taking down our Christmas decorations). As I said yesterday, it's been pretty cold here so I've been trying to dress for the weather. I hope this gives you some ideas for stylish, yet warm cold weather dressing :) When in doubt, just add color!

These gold glitter flats were a gift from my grandmother for Christmas... I love them! Sam Edelman's shoes are gorgeous and they're so comfortable (this is my third pair!). I am also really liking the color combination here: the red, orange, and gold really complement each other. I tried to play down the dressiness of the gold flats with a thermal top (with gold buttons!) and with a casual scarf and gloves. What would you pair with them?

Purple and Pearls

It's been so cold lately (it was 27 degrees outside when I got up this morning) that it's been hard to find outfits that are both stylish and warm (hence the boots and layered tops). I always find it much more difficult to dress well during the winter months. This outfit was perfect...and I love chunky sweaters!

I loved the neutral gingham button down underneath the "not quite neon but close to it" purple sweater. It helped to offset the brightness and the pearls toned it down too. Add a black bag and brown riding boots and this is a great outfit for a casual day (lucky for me, my office is casual so this makes a perfect work outfit too)!

Here's to it being almost Friday!

White Chocolate Chip and Blueberry Scones

Baking is probably one of my favorite pastimes. It always helps to calm me down, de-stress, or just cheer me up... after all, who doesn't love something homemade? I love to make these scones on a weeked morning and enjoy with a nice, hot cup of coffee or tea.

Scones from Allrecipes.com, makes 8 servings

Ingredients:
3 cups flour
1/2 cup white sugar
5 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter
1 egg beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup blueberries

Directions:
Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the butter (it helps to melt it for a few seconds first... I start with about 15 seconds in the microwave). Mix the egg in the milk, then combine with the dry ingredients and stir. Add white chocolate chips and blueberries as desired (I usually do about 1 cup white chocolate chips and a half cup of blueberries... something to consider: my Mom always tells me that I don't add enough blueberries.)
Cut dough in half (easy to do while in the bowl) and roll into a ball. Place on a prepared surface (I just sprinkle a bit of flour on my countertop). Knead dough into a rough circle. Slice into four quarters with a knife. Fold quarters in half and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.

This is my favorite recipe for scones and one I've made multiple times (and one that has been requested more than that). The great thing about this recipe is that it is so basic (I added the white chocolate chips and blueberries on my own)... you can add whatever you want to tailor it to your own taste. I've made them just plain, with raisins, chocolate chips, and with apples and cinnamon. They have been great every way I've tried them. What would you add?

Enjoy!

Vintage Roses, Fringe, and Cat Eyes

And the festivities continue! Sunday we had a family Pollyanna at my grandparents' house. We had such a good time (hopefully we don't all end up sick... there were a few people there who weren't feeling so hot). However, that said, we were happy to see everyone. We always have a good laugh... or ten :) Well, that marks our last official holiday party this year. It's a bit sad, but now we can look forward to spring and summer and seeing everyone back at the beach!

I love this skirt but I usually have a hard time finding something to pair with it. I think the stripes work well, especially since the gray in the top pulls out the gray in the skirt. My new Kate Spade sunglasses, pearl earrings, and brown leather belt add to the vintage vibe of this look.
